Lullabies

Ever wondered how comedians sing themselves to sleep? After a two-year absence this unique show returns to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. International cabaret and opera singer, and the festival’s own ‘Variety-Nite’ host Ali McGregor brings along a the Festival’s finest to sing their favourite lullabies and fables. This year the show has both a new venue and a new cause. The Substation in the ‘so-hot-right-now’ inner west suburb of Newport is the venue, and the cause is Western Chances who provide scholarships and opportunities to youth in Melbourne’s West.

Previous guests have included Tim Minchin, Sammy J, Die Roten Punkte, Boy with Tape on His Face, Fiona O’Loughlin, Tripod, Wes Snelling, Phil Nichol, Stephen K Amos, Geraldine Quinn, Casey Bennetto and even David Hobson.

If, in previous years you cried at Fiona O’Loughlins moving version of ‘O Danny Boy’, were moved by Adam Hills’ rendition of Clancy of the Overflow or were charmed by Tim Minchin’s songs of home you will know to expect nothing short of an extraordinary.

This year promises to be the best year yet in a new, luscious venue only 15 minutes from the Festival Hub.

"With the help of an eclectic bunch of mates that includes comedians Adam Hills and Tripod expect one very warped collection of lullabies." The Age 2009
